Bamboo Phyllostachys vivax

Geographic Origin: Originates from China, it is found on the entire east side of China, from Shanghaï to Hong Kong.
Adult size: up to 10.5 m. in height (can vary depending on its situation).
Diameter of cane: 3 to 7,5 cm.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Moist and deep. Does not like excessive chalk.
Exposure: Sun.
Hardiness: -23°C.
Root development: Strong runner root system (very spreading variety).


Properties and uses:
This bamboo has green ribbed canes. However, the wood is quite fine and not very strong it is therefore very susceptible to the wind. Its leaves are dark green and quite large. It has an arched shape.
The bamboo Phyllostachys vivax is happiest grown in clumps.
The young shoots are edible. Be careful not to confuse it with the phyllostachys bambusoides. It was introduced in to France in 1981.
