Properties and uses:
Turmeric is a perennial herbaceous plant, appreciated for its exotic look and its aromatic and medicinal qualities. The orange-coloured roots (rhizomes) produce a chemical called Curcumin. They are often ground into powder. The turmeric powder is commonly used as a spice in many dishes, as well as for its medicinal and dyeing characteristics.

Turmeric develops from late spring throughout summer. Then in September, when the temperatures lower, the plant goes into a vegetative rest. Turmeric has shiny green leaves, and the white flower generally blooms after 3 years.
Turmeric can be planted in forest edges, flowerbeds, or a pot, if it is placed in the shade in summer.
