Geographic Origin: Originates from China, notably the provinces around Shanghai of Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

Adult size: 6 metres or greater in height.

Diameter of cane: 1.5 to 5cm.

Foliage: Evergreen.

Type of soil: Moist and deep. Does not like excessive chalk.

Exposure: Partial shade or sun.

Hardiness: -26°C.

Root development: Runner root system (spreading variety).

Characteristics and uses:
The canes of the Phyllostachys aureosulcata f. spectabilis are sun yellow in colour and streaked with green. At their base the canes have a “zig-zag” form and are rough to the touch.

This bamboo is ideal for hedging but is equally happy in a pot or planter.
