Area of origin: Central Asia, Balkans.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 8 m (26,2'), width up to 10 m (32,8').
Foliage: Deciduous.
Soil Type: Rich, well drained.

Characteristics and Uses: The 5 petaled white flowers appear on the branches before the leaves in March and April.  The red-yellow edible fruits are sweet.  Bigger than cherries they measure 2-3cm (0.8-1.8") in diameter.  This tree is planted alone in parks and gardens or within a mixed country hedge.  It is also used as grafting stock for fruit trees.
