Areas of origin: Indigenous in the Mediterranean scrublands from 0 to 1000 metres (1094 yds).
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 10 metres, width up to 10 metres (32.8').
Foliage: Evergreen.
Soil type: Grows in soils mildly lime.
Hardiness: Hardy to -12°C.
Exposure: Full sun.
Characteristics and Uses: The little white flowers in the shape of vases appear at the same time as the fruits in autumn. It’s brown bark peels off in long thin strips.
This magnificent shrub is planted alone, in groups or in hedges. In a cold climate, it can be planted in a container or in a sheltered position. It is also interesting for bonsai enthusiasts.
Its fruits although they resemble a combination of a strawberry and a blackberry are insipid.
