Geographic origin: America and Caucasus.
Adult size: Height up to 5 m, width up to 5 m (16,4').
Foliage: Deciduous, dark green becoming yellow, red & brown in autumn.
Type of soil: Avoid too much lime.
Climate: Hardy to -20°C.
Position: Shade to full sun.
Characteristis and uses: White flowers from the beginning of spring to the end of summer. The medlars fall in October and are used when overripe: they are soft and make a lovely paste, sweet and with a delicate flavour. It can be planted alone, in an orchard or within a country hedge.
Certain cultivars give a higher yield of fruit and fruit that has more taste. It is notably the case with the German medlar tree.
