Geographic Origin: Originates from the coastal areas of Southeast China, found between Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Adult size: 7 to 10 m. in height.

Cane diameter: 2 to 5 cm.

Foliage: Evergreen.

Type of soil: Thrives best in rich soils.

Exposure: Partial shade or sun.

Hardiness: -26°C.

Root development: Runner root system (spreading variety).

Characteristics and uses:
This bamboo has dark green shiny canes. Its leaves are both long and wide.

It is happy when planted in clumps or as a hedge or copse.

The young shoots are edible. The Phyllostachys viridiglaucescens particularly enjoys rich soils. It was first introduced into France in 1846.
