Areas of origin: Northern Iran, China, Japan; south-east of the United States and in tropical Africa. Introduced into Europe in 1745.

Adult dimensions: Height up to 12 metres, width up to 12 metres (39.4').

Foliage: Deciduous.

Soil type: All.

Hardiness: Half-hardy needs summer warmth, tolerant to -10°C.

Exposure: Full sun.

The Silk tree has an abundant blossom throughout the entire summer in hot areas. This magnificent ornamental tree is best planted on its own. Numerous varieties exist.
