The Loquat, Japanese Plum - Eriobotrya japonica

Characteristics and uses: The Loquat is as beautiful as interesting, for its fruits. It has tough dark green leaves. Its scented blossom takes place in Autumn and at the beginning of Winter. Its edible fruits are ripe at the beginning of spring. They have a slightly acid taste and are very juicy.
Its shape, spreading as it matures coupled with its rather quick growth make it a good shade-providing tree.
