Russian Olive, Oleaster - Elaeagnus angustifolia (latin)

Area of origin: Eastern Europe as far as the Himalaya. Naturalised in southern Europe. It has been cultivated in Europe since the sixteenth century...
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 12 m (39.4'), width up to 10 m (32.8').
Foliage: Deciduous, silver.
Soil Type: All.
Hardiness: Hardy to -24°C, can cope with dryness but will suffer in severe cold.
Exposure: Full sun.

Properties and uses:
The foliage is lightly aromatic and the flowers which appear in June have a delicious scent of honey. The acidic fruits are used in sorbets of the Orient.
