The mound-forming, almost trailing, aspect of this Berberis makes it a perfect ground-covering plant. Its foliage is pale green in spring, then bright green in summer, turning deep red in winter. The yellow and red flowers also make it an interesting shrub. It can be planted alone, but most of the time, it is used to create low defensive hedges.
