Description: Blackberry, Thornless

Thornless Blackberry - Rubus Fruticosus (latin)

Origin: Horticulture.
Adult Dimensions: Height and width 1 to 2 m.
Foliage: Deciduous.
Soil Type: All, Well-drained
Hardiness: Hardy to -20°C.
Exposure: Partial shade to full sun.


Characteristics and uses:
The Blackberry is a particularly productive thornless bush giving big black berries, ready to be harvested by the month of August.
The cone-shaped fruits are sweet, slightly sour and very tasty.
The branches are thornless, the plant bearing is strong and semi-erected. This Blackberry is frost and disease resistant.

Several varieties exist:
- 'Chester Thornless' blackberry: a robust, thornless American variety with large, sweet fruits and good disease resistance. Harvest from August to late September.
- 'Jumbo' blackberry: a robust, thornless variety with large, fragrant, juicy fruits and good disease resistance. Harvest from August to October.
