Everything about: Pomegranate

Pomegranate - Punica granata (latin)

Geographic origin: West Asia
Adult dimensions: Height up to 4-5 metres
Foliage: Deciduous.
Type of soil: Any soil, except wettest ones
Hardiness: Hardy to -12°C, sheltered from cold winds
Exposure: Full sun

Properties and uses:
First of all, the Pomegranate tree is a beautiful ornamental tree. It will bring a beautiful touch to your garden, with its bushy bearing and its gnarled trunk, and with the magnificent tiny red flowers that bloom in May.
In the warmest regions, the fruits are ripe in August, as the pomegranate needs the summer sun to mature and become sweet and edible.
Whether with its leaves, flowers or fruits, the Pomegranate tree will distinguish itself by its exotic nature and elegance.

Several cultivars exist:
- Pomegranate 'Wonderful': large red fruits to taste or juice, few seeds.
- Pomegranate 'Mollar de Elche': native to Spain, very mild and sweet flavor, few seeds.
- Pomegranate 'Fina Tendral': originally from Spain, large seedless fruits.
- Pomegranate 'Black Fruit': quite rare, the fruits have purplish, almost black skin, sweet to tangy flavor.

Plant now: the shortest way to your plate is through your garden!
