Climate: Hardy to -10°C. To be brought under shelter in cold winters' areas.
Site: Partial-shade to full sun.

Characteristics and uses:
The Chinese dwarf Banana is a tropical, perennial close to the Banana tree family (Musa). In the past, it was grown for its fibres used as fodder or again for its medicinal properties. The Chinese dwarf Banana adapts perfectly under our latitudes, whether grown directly onto the ground or in pots in the coldest areas. If the Chinese dwarf Banana is grown into the ground its leaves die as from -2°C. Do not remove them as they protect the stump which will then restart rapidly as soon as the warmest days return.
In June-July a large, golden-yellow flower reminiscent of a Lotus flower will appear at the centre of the Chinese dwarf Banana.
The Chinese dwarf Banana is rather greedy. It enjoys a regular supply of a nitrogen fertilizer or decomposed compost. At the end of winter, clean the stump removing the leaves which are dead or damaged. The Chinese dwarf Banana produces numerous suckers at the trunk's base. You can either let them develop or remove them.
