Everything about: Maple, Japanese 'Arakawa'

'Arakawa' Japanese maple - Acer palmatum 'Arakawa' (latin)

Area of origin: Japan
Adult Dimensions: 6 to 8 m
Foliage: Deciduous
Soil Type: Acidic and moist, organically rich.
Hardiness: Hardy to -15°C.
Exposure: Semi-shade to full sun.

Properties and uses:
The Japanese Maple 'Arakawa' foliage emerges fresh green with a thin pinkish margin in spring, then becomes a darker green throughout summer before gradually changing to orange and bright red in autumn.
The bark of the Japanese Maple 'Arakawa' gets rough and corky, and it is particularly visible during winter when all the leaves have fallen. The foliage and the bark of this tree provide a year-round ornamental interest, and this 'Arakawa' species is often used for Bonsai creation as well as for parks and small gardens.
