Korean pine - Pinus koraiensis (latin)

Geographical origins: Korea, Japan, Siberia.
Adult dimensions: Height up to 12 m, width up to 4 m.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Well drained, tolerates even poor soils. Avoid chalky soil.
Hardiness: Extremely Hardy, up to -50°C.
Exposure: Full sun.


Properties and uses:
The slow growth of this pine makes it the ideal candidate for growing as a bonsai. It is also perfect for small gardens where it can be grown as a single specimen.
The Korean pine has medium sized needles (7 to 13 cm long) and greyish brown bark. It has a pyramid shape that becomes less regular with age.
