Japanese Black Pine - Pinus thunbergii (latin)

Geographical origins: Japan, coastal areas, on dunes and up to 700 m (776 yds). Introduced in 1855.
Adult dimensions: Height up to 35 m (114.8"), width up to 15 m (49.2").
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Any.
Hardiness: Hardy and tolerant of coastal winds. Hardy to -25°C.
Exposure: Full sun.

Properties and uses:
The irregular shaped branches and the dark green foliage make this a very beautiful ornamental tree. It is used in Japan because it responds very well to cutting and miniaturising, bonsai enthusiasts use this variety frequently. The needles come in pairs.
