Geographical origins: Originally, from China, it grows mainly between the valleys of the Yangtze and the yellow river (provinces of Shaanxi, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang).
Adult dimensions: 6 to 8.5 m in height.
Cane diameter: 3,5 to 5 cm.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Moist and deep. Does not like excessive chalk.
Expossure: Partial shade or sun.
Hardiness: -25°C.
Root development: Slightly spreading root system.


Properties and uses:
This bamboo has green canes and a very upright shape. It can be grown in clumps, as a hedge or a copse.
This bamboo is particularly suitable for badly drained soil. The young shoots are edible. It was introduced into France in 1982 from the United States. It is also found under the name of Phyllostachys mannii.
