Himalayan Cedar - Cedrus deodara (latin)

Areas of origin: Western Himalayas Afghanistan to Nepal from 1700 to 3000 m (1859-3280yds). Introduced in 1820.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 60 m (197'), width up to 20 m (65.6').
Foliage: Evergreen.
Soil Type: All but not in stagnant water.
Hardiness: Sensitive sometimes to a late frost. Tolerant to -12°C.
Exposure: Full sun.

Properties and uses:
This big tree is very elegant with its long sloping branches. Planted alone in parks it is also used to create magnificent avenues. Bonsai enthusiasts like to use this species to work on. The wood is very strong, fragrant and resistant to moisture and termites such as those found in the temples of the Middle East and India. Can be used for veneers.
