Description: Elderberry, Black Lace

Black Lace™ Elderberry - Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' (latin)

Adult Dimensions: Height up to 3 m, width up to 3 m (9,8).
Foliage: Deciduous.
Soil Type: All.
Hardiness: Hardy to -20°C.
Exposure: Semi-shade to full sun.

Properties and uses:
This purple coloured tree is very elegant with deep purple finely dissected leaves. In June it is covered with pink flowers becoming creamy white. In summer the red fruits which change to black are much appreciated by the birds, the berries are edible only after cooking for humans: jelly, jam, wine...
In a flowering hedge or in a mixed flowerbed this plant is spectacular in any garden. A regular trimming produces the best foliage, for the best flowering it is advised to trim at the beginning of spring.
