Description: Carolina Silverbell, Snowdrop tree

Carolina Silverbell, Snowdrop tree - Halesia carolina (latin)

Geographical origin: Southeast of the United States, in humid forests.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 8m, spread up to 12m.
Foliage: Deciduous.
Type of soil: Acid to neutral, moist, rich and well-drained.
Climate: Hardy up to -20°C.
Site: Partial-shade to full sun.

Characteristics and uses:
The Carolina Silverbell is a magnificent shrub which has spectacular, springtime blossom. In April-May, before leaves appear, it covers itself with bell-shaped, white flowers. In autumn, its leaves become vivid yellow before revealing a bark which exfoliates with age.
This shrub which does not require any particular care thrives in sites protected from cold winds and needs a moist, rich soil in order to grow properly.
