Purple-leaved Japanese Maple 'Bloodgood' - Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' (latin)

Geographical origin: Japan, China and Korea.
Adult sizes: Height up to 5 m, spread up to 5 m.
Foliage: Deciduous, purple.
Type of soil: Deep and moist, silty and rich in organic matter or in heath peat soil. So is therefore sensitive to calcareous soil (limy or chalky).
Climate: Hardy to -17°C. Is sensitive to spring's frost, cold winds and very dry atmosphere.
Site: Partial shade to full sun, the sun reinforces its colours.

Properties and uses:
The foliage of the Japanese Maple 'Bloodgood' is more indented than the foliage of the Japanese Maple ''Atropurpureum'. Purple to start with, the foliage turns vivid red in the autumn. It thrives best planted in light shade, or in full sun in mild summer areas. Indeed the sun heightens its colours.
The small size of the Japanese Maple 'Bloodgood' makes it an ideal candidate to grow on its own, even in the smaller gardens. It also thrives grown in pot or as a Bonsai. Combined with rocks and water, it will allow you to create a Japanese-inspired ambiance in your garden.
