Climate: Hardy to -30°C.

Characteristics and uses:
The Hornbeam 'Fastigiata' is distinguishable from the Common Hornbeam thanks to its columnar shape. Superb grown on its own, as a specimen tree, it can be used in hedges or in line. It has a rather slow growth. This Hornbeam withstands harsh winters but is sensitive to strong summer' heat. Its embossed, luminous foliage turns yellow in the autumn. It is 'marcescent', in other words its leaves die in the autumn but generally stay in place until the arrival of new leaves at the beginning or the following spring.
