The Stewartia is a small, slow growing tree. Its serrated, dark green foliage takes on orange to purplish-red tints in the autumn. It blossoms in July-August. Its flowers are white with a yellow centre. On the old wood, the bark exfoliates and let appear brown-red and beige tints.
