Areas of origin: China. Discovered in 1869 by the abbot David. Introduced in 1895.

Properties and uses:
The flowers of the Buddleia or butterfly bush are fragrant, with long panicles and attract butterflies. Its blossom is abundant and last from July through to October. The Buddleia is very vigorous and it can be pruned hard in winter. It can be planted on its own, in a group or in mixed hedges.
