Tree Germander or Shrubby Germander - Teucrium fruticans (latin)

Geographical origin: South of Europe, protected species in France.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 1.5m, spread up to 1.50m.
Foliage: Evergreen.
Type of soil: Preferably poor, dry and well-drained. Sensitive to calcareous soils (limy or chalky soils).
Climate: Hardy up to -10°C. Withstands sea spray.
Site: Full sun.


Characteristics and uses:
The tree Germander is a shrub which thrives in mild climates. It has beautiful silver, slightly aromatic foliage and a summer blossom. Its numerous pale blue flowers are highly attractive to bees.
Highly drought resistant, it withstands being grown in pots. It can also be planted in low hedges, in flowering beds or in rockeries. Its foliage suited to pruning, you can even attempt to create topiaries or a stylish, well-groomed hedge.
Ideal plant in Mediterranean-style gardens, with Lavenders, Thyme, Rosemary, Mastic tree, Olive tree as companions...
