Geographical origins: China.
Adult dimensions: Height up to 2 m, spread up to1 m.
Foliage: Deciduous.
Type of soil: Acid to neutral, rich, add some heath peat if soil too compact.
Climate: Hardy to -20°C.
Site: Full sun.


Characteristics and uses:
The Black Lily Magnolia has spectacular blossom in April-May. Appearing before the leaves, the tulip-shaped flowers with purple tints cover the branches of this shrub. Ideal in small gardens and in flowering borders, the Black Lily Magnolia is easy to look after: a little manure in winter, a light pruning if necessary after blossom is all that's needed!
