Properties and uses:
The Field Elm (Ulmus minor) was once an emblematic tree in our landscapes. This tree is resilient and elegant but sensitive to Dutch elm disease which almost wiped out all the large stands during the 1970s. Today, the Field Elm is used in reforestation projects and plantings of hedgerows. It produces suckers from stumps, so it grows easily even after being cut. Disease-resistant varieties from horticulture are recommended for plantings in public parcs and gardens, so the trees live longer
