Properties and Uses:
Borage, also known as "Starflower," is a precious and versatile ally.

1. Aesthetic and Honey-Producing Asset
Borage is known for its magnificent, intense azure blue star-shaped flowers.

  • Extended Blooming: Flowers from late spring until the first frosts.
  • Biodiversity Magnet: One of the best melliferous plants. It produces abundant nectar that irresistibly attracts bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, promoting pollination throughout your garden.

2. The Vegetable Garden Ally (Permaculture)
Beyond its beauty, it is a protective plant that acts as a "bodyguard" for your vegetables.
  • Repellent Effect: Naturally deters certain pests, notably the cabbage white butterfly and slugs (thanks to its rough hairs).
  • Ideal Companion: Stimulates the growth of strawberries and gets along wonderfully with tomatoes and zucchini.
  • Green Manure: Its deep roots pull minerals (especially potassium and calcium) to the surface. Once crushed, it makes an excellent nutrient-rich mulch.

3. An Edible and Original Plant
Everything in borage can be consumed!
  • Flowers: Decorate your salads and cocktails with a surprising cucumber flavor.
  • Young Leaves: Rich in potassium nitrate, they can be cooked like spinach or finely chopped into a yogurt sauce.

Gardener's Note: Borage is a "wandering" plant. Once established, it will self-seed spontaneously.
