Screening Hedge

Aim: The screening hedge is generally used to protect you from the view of other people or to hide unsightly buildings. The plants that make it up are usually either evergreen or marcescent. It is generally made up of a single species. To be slightly more original a mixture of similar types of plant can be used, however it is important to avoid mixing conifers with broad leaved varieties. A mix of photinia, palm laurel and eleagnus ebbingei for example will give a marvellous effect.

Adult height: The screening hedge generally needs pruning. It can be between 1.50m and 3m in height and requires pruning once or twice a year. If it is not pruned, the hedge depending on the species used can reach several metres in height.

Period of interest: All year.

Planting distances: For pruned hedges every 80cm. For unpruned hedges every 1.50m.

Mulch: To avoid weeding, think to install a ground cover before planting.
