Everything about: Iris, Mix

Mixed Dutch Iris - Iris Hollandica (latin)

Geographical origins: South Europe, Mediterranean region, Manor Asia.
Adult Dimensions: About 50cm.
Type of soil: Any, well drained. Avoid heavy clayey soils.
Climate: Hardy.
Site: Partial shade to full sun.

Characteristics and uses:
The Dutch Iris features elegant flowers from April till June. This perennial bulb is lovely in beds and borders, and even in flowerbeds. Also called English Iris, it is one of the first flowers to bloom in the garden in Spring.

Plant the bulbs from October to December, upper side up and 10 cm apart. Burry them in soil, twice their height deep. Water just after the planting, then regularly throughout the culture, preferably in the evening after sunset. Keep the soil relatively dry in summer because they are then in dormancy. It is advised to supply them with potassium-rich fertilizer during and after the blooming. Lastly, think about cutting the wilted flowers right at the base.
