Pretty-by-night - Mirabilis jalapa (latin)

Geographic origins: Central and South America.
Adult size: 50 to 60 cm.
Foliage: Deciduous, evergreen in tropical areas.
Type of soil: Deep and free draining.
Climate: Not hardy (remove the bulbs from the ground to store over winter).
Position: Full sun.

Characteristics and uses:
Plant the Pretty-by-night bulbs 20 to 30 cm apart, and 5 cm deep in a rich and well worked soil. Water regularly but without excess.

The Mirabilis "Pretty-by-night" blossoms from July right through to September. Easy to look after, you only need to remove dead flowers to prolong its blossoming. Its flowers can have different shades, even on the same plant. They open up towards the end of the day and exhale a pleasant fragrance. They wither before the morning.

Beware; The Mirabilis "Pretty-by-night" can become rather invasive if planted in an area where it withstands its winter.
