Crapaudine Beetroot - Beta vulgaris conditiva (latin)

This old variety, also called ‘bark beetroot’, has a long root with a cracked skin which reminds that of the Black Radish.
The pulp is dark red, soft, sweet and very tasty.
The harvest can be stored in a cellar until March.


Type of soil: Deep, rich and loose
Sowing time: From April to May
Harvest time: From July to November
Site: Full sun


Sow directly into the ground:
- Sow in rows 1 cm deep and 30 cm apart. Don’t sow too early to avoid bolting.
- After one month, transplant the seedlings every 10 cm.
- Thin out and keep one plant every 20 cm.


Care:
- This variety is very sensible to drought, so it is recommended to keep the crop evenly watered and mulched.
- Hoe regularly and deeply after thinning out and watering, to guarantee a good harvest.
- Protect from flea beetle when growing.
