Bigourdan French Climbing Beans - Phaseolus vulgaris (latin)

Variety with green pods, long and large, rather arched and producing large white beans kidney shaped. Variety widely used in the South West for making the well-known French dish ‘Cassoulet’. Remarkable flavour. Plant height: 2m and more.


Type of soil: Rich and well drained. Deeply dug.
Sowing time: Mid April to mid July.
Harvest time: 10 weeks after sowing.
Site: Full sun.


Sow directly into the ground:
- Sow seeds into furrows that are 50cm apart with a seed every 8 to 10cm.
- You can also sow them in holes containing 3 or 4 seeds that are 30cm apart.
- Cover them lightly with soil and water copiously.


Care:
- Keep the soil damp.
- Regularly hoe around the base of the plants.
- For climbing varieties, you should install some kind of support.
