Spaghetti Squash - Allium porrum (latin)

It is vegetable Spaghetti. The yellow flesh is very flavourful. After cooking in boiling water for 20 minutes, the cooked flesh takes on the appearance of spaghetti and is eaten hot or cold like pasta.


Type of soil: Rich and well drained.
Sowing time: From April to June.
Harvest time: From August to October.
Site: Full sun.


Sow directly in the ground:
- Prepare some small holes that are 1m apart. Plant three seeds in each hole between 1 and 2cm deep.
- Once the plants have germinated, keep only the strongest one.
- Water generously.


Care and pruning:
- Mulch the surrounding ground to stop the plants getting dirty.
- For spreading varieties pinch out the end of the shoot after two leaves, and then at two leaves above each fruit.
- If you want, large fruits then limit it to three fruits per plant.
- Water regularly and abundantly.
