Ecopiège™ (Eco-trap) for Pine Processionary Caterpillars

The Eco-trap is a unique system which allows catching the Processionary Caterpillars as they come down from their nests, before they reach the ground.
Reusable, chemicals and Pheromones free, these traps have effectiveness higher than 97%. Placed approximately 2 metres high, they do not present a danger for children or animals.

How does it work:

The Eco-trap has a small collar which surrounds the tree trunk, and guides the caterpillars towards a bag full of soil in which they bury themselves to transform into chrysalis.
Placed on each tree which has nests, this system allows to collect the quasi totality of the caterpillars.
At the end of the season, remove the bag and burn it or take it to your waste disposal centre.

Assembly instructions:

Once you have spotted the nests, in November, you will have to place one trap per infected tree.
Choose the collar in function of the size of the tree trunk. For trees infected with 10 or more nests, allow for a riser and an additional collecting bag.

- Place the collar approximately 2 metres high, so that the trap is not accessible to children and animals.
- Remove a little bit of bark where the collar is going to sit.
- Place the putty between the collar and the tree trunk, carefully so as not to leave any holes to avoid the caterpillars escaping.
- Do not intervene while the caterpillars are coming down from their nests, they can stay in the collar up to two weeks.
- Wait until the end of May before taking the bag away and destroy it.

The following year, place your trap again with a brand new bag.
