'Bacalan de Rennes' Cabbage - Brassica oleracea capitata (latin)

Early variety suitable for spring harvest.
The conical head is formed of large bluish-green leaves.
It is used for a famous traditional Portuguese dish: the Bacalhau.


Type of soil: Rich, moist and well-drained.
Sowing time: From July to August for a spring harvest. From March to April for a summer harvest.
Harvest time: From March to April. From July to August.
Site: Full sun.


Sowing technique:
- Sow in rows ½ cm deep and 50 cm apart.
- Transplant 6 to 8 weeks after sowing, keeping seedlings 50 cm apart.
- Transplant the summer sowing under a cold frame.
- Protect from flea beetle when growing.


Care:
- Water generously during summer.
- Hoe frequently.
- Protect from slugs and caterpillars.
