'Potimarron' Pumpkin - Allium porrum (latin)

A variety with smaller fruits than other pumpkins, they have a reddish brown skin and dark yellow flesh. They have a taste of chestnut hence their name « Potimarron ».


Type of soil: Rich and well drained.
Sowing time: From April to June.
Harvest time: From September to October.
Site: Full sun.


Sow directly in the ground:
- Prepare some small holes that are 1m apart. Plant three seeds in each hole between 1 and 2cm deep.
- Once the plants have germinated, keep only the strongest one.
- Water generously.


Care and pruning:
- Mulch the surrounding ground to stop the plants getting dirty.
- For spreading varieties pinch out the end of the shoot after two leaves, and then at two leaves above each fruit.
- If you want, large fruits then limit it to three fruits per plant.
- Water regularly and abundantly.
