Lagos F1 Spinach - Spinacia oleracea (latin)

Variety resistant to the two strains of mildew and to the Mosaic disease. Resistance to bolting. Smooth, firm leaves.

Type of soil: Cool, rich, neutral to chalky.
Sowing time: From February to June.
Harvest time: 10 to 12 weeks after sowing.
Site: Partial shade if the soil has a tendency to dry out rapidly.

Sow directly into the ground:
- In furrows about 2 cm deep, sow a seed every 4 cm, cover it with fine compost and water.
- Germination is long (2 to 3 weeks).
- Thin out every other seedling when young plants start to get in each other’s way. These young shoots will be delicious in salad.

Care:
- Keep the soil moist.
- Beware, warmth does make Spinach go to seed.
- Adding nitrogen (stinging nettle juice for example) in the middle of growing period could also be beneficial.
- Harvest the leaves regularly on the plants so they carry on producing for several weeks.
