After mixed-weather this summer, the sun will it be back in the autumn ?

We can only hope so as nature always looks for the right balance. In any case, the return to gardening duties is looking good. A lot of plants have made the most of the humid weather in developing and growing. It will be probably necessary to cut back the ones that have grown too much, unless they are spring flowering shrubs. As for Roses, it is also the right time to do a light pruning, called "summer pruning". It is really a simple task: cut all the withered roses and you will get other buds!

Do a little clearing out of all other witted flowers to keep your garden and pots looking neat and tidy. Talking about potted plants, as the warm season has not finished yet, giving them some fertilizer will probably be beneficial, especially if they are continuous' flowering plants. The season of spring flowering bulbs is also on the way as we can plant tulips and other spring announcing plants. Do not forget about them and plan some space to house some new ones!

Summer might also have left some traces on Photinias or Cherry trees' foliage, which could have turned yellow or acquired some stains,. If you notice these symptoms in your garden do not worry; everything will be back to normal next year!

However Tomatoes which have blackened will not get better. In the vegetable patch, start thinking instead about autumn and winter vegetables such as rooted vegetables which you still have time to sow. As for weeds which have also made the most of summer, they surpass themselves in September. Plan ahead some spare time to tidy up you lawns borders, clean your flowering beds and inspect your potted plants. When the sun is out, it is still summer in the garden. So make the most of it and do not go without a bit of gardening in September!
