Area of origin: Eastern region of North America.  Introduced in 1656.
Adult Dimensions : Height up to 25m (82'), width up to 15m (49.2').
Foliage : Deciduous.
Soil Type : Moist and rich in organic matter.  Dislikes lime.
Hardiness: Hardy to -32°C. Avoid climates that are too dry
Exposure:  Semi-shade to full sun.










Characteristics and Uses: It is the fantastic bright red foliage in autumn that gives this beautiful tree its name.  Very impressive when planted in rows, and to create beautiful avenues, but equally attractive planted alone in the garden.
