Area of origin:
China, Japan and Korea. Adult dimensions: Height: Up to 1.5 meters. Spread: Up to
1.5 meters. Foliage: Deciduous. Soil: Deep and cool, silty and rich in organic matter or
peat or heather compost. Cannot tolerate chalky soil. Hardiness: Frost hardy up to -15°C. Position:
Semi-shade to full sun.
Characteristics and features:
Renowned for its compact and rounded form. Its dark red foliage in strips further enhances its stature. Can be planted singly, in groups, in flowerbeds, on grounds, in gardens, even in pots on balconies or on north facing terraces. Being well known in the Bonsai world, it produces interesting results when planted in a suitable container and pruned a few times throughout the year.
