Areas of origin: Eastern regions of North America, introduced in 19th century for game.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 20 m (65,6'), width up to 15 m (49,2).
Foliage: Deciduous.
Soil Type: Very rich. Dislikes lime.
Hardiness: Hardy to -32°C.
Exposure: Full sun.

Properties and uses:
Flowers in bunches in May and June. The round fruits od approx 1cm in diameter, red then becoming black when ripe are edible although bitter. Interesting shelter for game within country hedges.
