Amsterdam forcing Carrot - Daucus carotta (latin)

Early growing variety, cylindrical with a blunt (stump) end, and hardly any core. The root is tender and does store well after lifting.

Type of soil: Deep, rich and light. It is possible to grow the short and round varieties in pots.
Sowing time: Spread out the sowing of seeds from February to July.
Harvest time: 12 to 16 weeks after sowing.
Minimum temperature: The optimum temperature for coming up is between 26 and 30°C.
Site: Full sun.

Carrots are easy to grow. They can be grown with radishes, which will grow first then leave them the necessary space when needed. At the beginning of the growing season, it is advisable to sow under a forcing tunnel.

Sow directly into the ground:
- Sow in furrow drills of 1cm deep and cover with sand or fine earth. You can space out your drills about 10cm apart.
- Thin out a first time when seedlings are 3 cm high and keep a seedling approximately every 3 cm.
- Thin out a second time when the seedlings have 3 leaves and only keep one plant every 8 to 10 cm.

Care:
- Water generously but not too often. You can also mulch to keep the soil humid.
- Harvest your carrots as you need them, starting by the earliest ones.
