‘Nantais hâtif' Cabbage - Brassica oleracea (latin)

Rounded head variety, very hard, dark foliage. Early variety particularly suited to Atlantic areas. Not suited to harsh winter areas.


Type of soil: Rich and well drained. Well dug.
Sowing time: From March to April, and from July to August.
Harvest time: April to May, and August to September.
Site: Full sun.


Sow directly in the ground or under a frame:
- Sow thinly straight in to the ground, covering lightly with fine soil, firm down and water with a light spray. Keep the soil moist until they come through.
- A month after sowing when the seedlings have 3 leaves; carry out the first pricking out removing the seedlings gently. Space the seedlings about 10cm apart.
- Later when the plants have between 4 and 6 leaves repeat the procedure and space them 50cm apart. The process of pricking out will strengthen the roots.


Pruning and looking after:
- Water regularly, mulch the ground around the plants.
- No pruning is necessary.
- Harvest them as needed, by cutting the stalk at ground level.
