Dark Egyptian Beetroot - Betta vulgaris (latin)

Quick growing variety with a flat thick root. The flesh is firm and of excellent quality. Resistant to running to seed, it can be sown early.


Type of soil: Heavy, rich and well worked in depth.
Sowing time: April to May. Spread out the sowing of your seeds to get beetroots until the first frost.
Harvest time: From July to October.
Site: Full sun.


Sow directly into the ground:
- Make furrow drills spaced out at 30cm or so, and place your seeds approximately 1 cm deep. Press down and water.
- When plants have 3 to 4 leaves, thin them out to only keep one every 10cm.


Care:
- water regularly and plan some hoeing.
- To prevent disease, spray them with some "bouillie Bordelaise" now and again.
