Geographic Origin: It is primarily found in central northern China, Japan and Korea, however, it is also found throughout Southeast Asia in countries like Burma, Vietnam, Laos and India.

Adult size: 10 to 16 metres in height (depending on its location).

Characteristics and uses:
The canes of this large bamboo are dark green and straight. Its leaves are also dark green and it has an upright stance.

It first came to France in 1866 from northern Japan. It is a bamboo that needs lots of space if it is to be shown of to its best and grow well. This bamboo appreciates rich soil. The young shoots are edible. It benefits from a good thinning out from time to time.
