Area of origin: South East Asia.
Adult Dimensions: Height up to 2 metres (6,6'), width up to 1.5 metre (4,9').
Foliage: Evergreen, dark green. Young leaves are reddish in spring becoming purple in autumn.
Soil type: All.
Hardiness: Hardy to -15°C.
Exposure: Semi-shade to full sun.


Characteristics and Uses: This versatile shrub produces beautiful flowers from spring until summer.  The creamy flowers in panicles are very long lasting.  The very bright red berries last all autumn and winter and are accompanied by changing colours of the leaves.  This beautiful shrub can easily find a place within flowerbeds and hedges but grows just as well in a container on balconies and terraces.

The Nandina domestica goes beautifully with :
Abelia grandiflora, beautiful pale pink- white blossom throughout summer
Beauty Bush 'Pink Cloud' (Kolkwitzia amabilis 'Pink Cloud'), abundant pale pink blossom in May and June, red foliage in the autumn
Border Forsythia (Forsythia intermedia), early golden yellow blossom
Buddleia (Buddleia Davidii), abundant and fragrant blossom from July through to October, highly attractive to butterflies
Laurustinus (Viburnum tinus), white blossom from November through to April, followed by bluish - black berries
Milkflower Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster lacteus), white blossom in June - July, followed by red berries in October
Variegated Pink Weigelia (Weigelia florida 'Variegata'), abundant blossom of pink bell shaped flowers throughout summer
